Community Spotlight: Neuse River Trail at Anderson Point Park

One of our favorite weekend rides is a 10ish mile out and back on the Neuse River Trail. Raleigh is rich in greenways and this ride has some fantastic crossings of the river, the terrain is kid friendly, and you can ride almost as far as you want!

We park at Anderson Point Park and head north. As you can see in the photos below, the views and scenery never disappoint. There are several bridge and boardwalk crossings. Terrain wise, there are a few hills, but because you are following the Neuse River, the path is mostly flat.

A typical ride for our family is five miles up and five miles back. The trail gets a lot of use, which is great to see, but never feels too crowded.

Now it’s your turn. Comment below and let me know. What is your favorite greenway ride in Raleigh?

  1. I took this part of the trail north last weekend for the first time and loved it!

Getting back from the Neuse River trailhead to North Hills, though, is treacherous unless you want to take the super-indirect 30-mile greenway ride back. Disjointed, poorly marked trails and heavily trafficked roads all the way back.

    1. Nice! We have only ever done an out and back from Anderson point. We drive out, and haven’t attempted to get back toward Raleigh. Maybe one day!

  2. I love to skate and OneWheel this trail all the time! Definitely one of my faves in our local greenway network.

I got my Dad, who is now 70, into cycling with me last year, and this is the exact ride I took him on, heading north from APP. It’s perfect for casual riders. It’s very flat, there are zero interactions with cars, and the trail is wide and paved (or wooden bridge) the whole way. The NRT is definitely my favorite greenway in Raleigh. It is the crown jewel of our greenway system.
