Sarah P. Duke Gardens

The Sarah P. Duke Gardens are located in the heart of the Duke University Campus in Durham, but they feel like a world away.

The Gardens

Spanning over 55-acres, the gardens made up of several distinct areas including:

  • The Doris Duke Center Gardens
  • The Culberson Asiatic Arboretum
  • The Blomquist Garden of Native Plants
  • The Terraces and Historic Gardens

Admission to The Duke Gardens is free and they are open 365-days per year.

To Do

With or without the kids we love to take a relaxing stroll or pack a picnic to take in the large meadow. There are endless pockets of nature to explore and you feel as though you’ve been transported far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Gardens are a wonderful place to get lost in exploration.

Favorite Things

Don’t miss the native carnivorous plants, the big red bridge, meandering through the terraces and listening to the fountain, and relaxing in the meadow. The devil – or Blue Devil, as it may be – is truly in the details at The Gardens. As you explore it’s easy to see a lot of thought went into the design including paver selection, benches, and other aesthetic choices. It is one of the most beautiful places in the triangle.
